New York City
Me and my friend Marcin went on a 4 day trip to New York, just to see the
Big Apple. It's an interesting place: much bigger than I ever imagined, and
it feels like a world on its own - seems like everything you'd want to see is
there, and everyone you'd like to meet is there.
Below are some pictures, with descriptions. The ones I especially like are
in bold.
- 104-0483_img.jpg - first impression of NYC; it just happenned that when we got off the highway we ended up in a pretty bad neighbourhood - ugly, with garbage flying all over the place; overall, New York is a fairly clean city, considering its size
- 104-0484_img.jpg - looking straight down one of the streets, you can't see the end of the city; either sky scrapers or tall buildings stretch to the horizon
- 104-0485_img.jpg - a quiet residential street
- 104-0497_img.jpg - a New York subway station
- 104-0499_img.jpg - me on some busy street
- 104-0500_img.jpg - a Yellow Cab; further back on the right is the Majestic Theatre, one of the better Broadway theatres, where I've gone to see The Phantom of the Opera
- 105-0510_img.jpg - Chinese woman dragging a car across the streett
- 105-0513_img.jpg - flags hanging across the street, somewhere in Little Italy
- 105-0514_img.jpg - apartment building with fire escape staircases
- 105-0516_img.jpg - me and Marcin in a Yellow Cab
- 105-0536_img.jpg - entrance to the Metropolitan Museum of Art (the Met); the museum is big, with over 2 million objects on display, one could easily spend half a day in there
- 105-0534_img.jpg - ancient room at the Met
- 105-0538_img.jpg - a figure of some famous person :)
- 105-0541_img.jpg - subway station
- 106-0636_img.jpg - a man sleeping on a subway station
- 105-0544_img.jpg - restaurant where we had breakfast
- 105-0580_img.jpg - self-photo of my reflection off the NASDAQ building
- 105-0583_img.jpg - the Wall St. bull
- 105-0585_img.jpg - at the intersection of 2 famous streets
- 105-0600_img.jpg - uptown Manhattan, as seen from the top of one of the twin towers (World Trade Center towers)
- 106-0607_img.jpg - me on the roof of one of the twin towers (109th floor)
- 106-0609_img.jpg - the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridge
- 106-0616_img.jpg - cables of the Brooklyn bridge
- 106-0618_img.jpg - cars passing by; I don't know why but I like this picture
- 106-0620_img.jpg - Marcin on the Brooklyn bridge
- nypl_hall.jpg - main hall of the New York Public Library (NYPL); the architecture of the entire building is fascinating, with everything made from marble
- 106-0630_img.jpg - another view of the main hall
- nypl_reading_room2.jpg - NYPL reading room, often seen in the movies
- 106-0635_img.jpg - outside the entrance to the NYPL; the library has all the books kept on 7 floors underground, and they're brought by the staff on request to the reading room on the 3rd floor
- 106-0642_img.jpg - Marcin taking a nap on our way home
Architecture
I've seen many building whose architecture was I liked.
Helicopter tour
One of the best things of our trip, was a flight in a helicopter around New York's
skyscrapers. Amazing views on one hand, and just flying in a chopper on the
other was quite impressive. I've always wanted to fly in a helicopter, they're
just so cool.
